Many Illinois MBA students have a global background, but first year MBA student, Sunil Rajan, truly personifies the global student and employee. Spanning three continents, Sunil’s education and work experience have provided him with the know-how to adapt to new situations, and he is now applying those experiences in his pursuit of an Illinois MBA.
A native of Mumbai, India, Sunil moved to the UK in 2000 and completed a degree in software engineering where he was selected as the 2004 Student of the Year for the School of Mathematical and Information Sciences before accepting a position at Toyota’s European headquarters in Brussels, Belgium. The position at Toyota provided him with opportunities to experience the different cultures and landscapes of Europe through business trips and weekend travel, while managing the implementation of a million dollar plus critical business application.
The small class sizes and Illinois Business Consulting (IBC) opportunities were some of the many things that attracted Sunil to the Illinois MBA. He has found the structure of the small study groups allow all students to work with each other at some point during their first year, and his class “quickly became a close-knit group.” Sunil has become an active member of his class during the short four months they have been on campus as a peer-elected member of the Academic Council and as a member of the Operations & Technology Management Association. Building on real-life management projects he works on in IBC, Sunil hopes to pursue a career in IT consulting for financial and operations areas or IT strategic planning.
