The Illinois MBA is pleased to offer a joint degree with any other master's or PhD program on the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign campus.
Joint degrees allow students to earn two graduate degrees simultaneously. Typically, the period of study is shorter than if each degree was pursued independently. For more information regarding the joint degree program at Illinois please read our joint degree brochure.
Popular joint degree options include Law, Engineering, Labor & Employment Relations, Architecture, etc. For a complete list of graduate programs, please visit here.
Students need to apply to each degree program separately. All admissions decisions are made independently. It's a good idea to be familiarized with admissions policies and all application procedures for each individual college.
The MBA program admits new students to begin in the fall semester only. Joint degree students must be prepared to take MBA courses exclusively for one academic year (two semesters). This is due to the core curriculum through which students are taught to integrate the fundamentals of business.
After completing one full year in the MBA program (40 credit hours), joint degree students will need to complete an additional 20 credit hours through business electives. These electives may be taken all at once or spread out over time as joint degree students fulfill the requirements of their joint program. In either case, the joint degree student must be enrolled as an MBA student and pay MBA tuition for three semesters (as opposed to four semesters for non-joint degree MBA students).
*Medical Scholars must complete the first year of the MBA (40 hours) while enrolled full-time as an MBA student. The third semester (20 hours) of concentration coursework must be completed as well, but MBA enrollment is not required. A 2.75 GPA in MBA coursework must be maintained.
