The Finance concentration prepares students to pursue a variety of careers in the financial industry. One of the most popular career choices is corporate finance, which involves working with individual firms as a financial consultant and performing the financial management function within an individual firm. Another popular career choice is financial services, which involves creating, pricing, and marketing financial products or financial services.

Prerequisites:
Completion of first-year MBA core curriculum, including both MBA 505-Finance I and MBA 505-Finance II

Required: 
Sixteen hours of approved 500-level Finance courses.  Below is a selection of courses that have been offered previously.

4-hour courses:
FIN 512 - Financial Derivatives
FIN 513 - Financial Engineering I
FIN 514 - Financial Engineering II 
FIN 515 - Management of Fixed Income Portfolios
FIN 521 - Advanced Corporate Finance
FIN 522 - Cases in Financial Strategy
FIN 524 - Mergers, Acquisitions, and Corporate Restructurings
FIN 541 - Real Estate and Urban Land Economics
FIN 551 - International Financial Management
FIN 561 - Financial Intermediation

The Finance Department also offers new and experimental courses as selection of FIN 580: Special Topics in Finance.  Many of the courses are offered as two semester hour courses, often meeting for half a semester.  Course offerings vary from year to year.  Below is a recent list of topics offered.

Students may substitute no more than one (4-hour) course from the following list of recommended electives:

ACCY 517 - Financial Statement Analysis
ACE 528 - Research in Futures Markets

Each concentration is defined by the courses that are approved for concentration credit as well as substitution courses. Students pursuing a particular concentration who wish to include courses that are not listed must consult with an adviser in MBA Student Affairs regarding the approval process.
