If you were placed on the waitlist, you are encouraged to consider the following suggestions in order to strengthen your application. Please review the admissions profile available on our website to determine areas where you fall below our averages that you might be able to improve. If you have additional questions, please feel free to contact us at mba@uiuc.edu.
GMAT
If you have only taken the GMAT once, there is a good chance you could improve your score by taking it again. If your current score is below our average from last year, you may want to consider retaking the test. We will only consider the highest score that you send to us in evaluating your application. If you plan to retake the GMAT, please let us know as soon as you schedule the test. Once you take it, please fax us a copy of your unofficial score report at (217) 333-1156 and be sure to request that Pearson Vue send us an official report as well.
GPA
While you cannot change your undergraduate GPA, if you do not feel that it reflects your academic abilities please be sure to explain why you think so. You can submit an additional one-page essay if you prefer. If you have enrolled in business-related courses at a local college, you can send or fax a transcript to us (see below for contact information).
Career Goals
Your career goals are a critical part of your application. You should clearly articulate your short-term and long-term career goals, how an MBA will help you to achieve them, and how your prior experiences and skills relate to your future goals. If you feel that your goals were not clear in your first essay, you can submit an additional one-page summary of your career goals and e-mail it to us at mba@uiuc.edu.
Recommendations
You are required to submit three letters of recommendation with your application, but we will accept additional letters of recommendation in support of your application. Perhaps you know an alum of the College of Business who thinks you would be a great candidate, or you thought of someone who could speak to your areas of weakness. You are welcome to send in additional letters of recommendation to the address below at any time during the application process.
TOEFL
If you are an international student and feel that your TOEFL score is not reflective of your English ability, you may retake the TOEFL and request that ETS send us an official score report. In addition, if you have taken any English courses since you took the TOEFL, you may consider retaking it, and you should also make sure we are aware of your additional coursework.
