Housing

As students begin their transition to the University of Illinois and Urbana-Champaign, one of the first tasks to complete is locating housing. Whether you are single or have a family, there are many options available to meet your housing needs.

University Options
Every year many MBA students choose to live on campus. Sherman Hall is only several blocks away from where your classes will be, and you don't have to cook. Married international students, especially those with families, often live in Orchard Downs, which is a short bus ride away from campus.  Goodwin & Green is located within walking distance of your MBA classes and provides either furnished or unfurnished apartments. Check here to see the housing options that the university provides for graduate students.

Contact the University Housing Information Office for assistance in finding appropriate on-campus housing.

Apartment Rental
Because Urbana-Champaign has such a reasonable cost of living, and since buses are free for students, many students choose to rent apartments in town. The university's Tenant Union offers valuable resources and tips for students seeking off-campus housing.

Check here to get a list of local realtors.

The University of Illinois student newspaper, The Daily Illini, also provides a useful apartment searching tool.

Co-op
If you are interested in co-operative living, a rather unique situation is the government-subsidized Winfield Village. Residents must become a partial owner of the cooperative, investing between $3700 to $6100. This investment plus interest (11.5% at present) are returned to the resident upon expiration of the lease. Since the property is government-subsidized there are limits on annual income levels. They range from $13,990 to $33,000. Examples of monthly rent are:

 1 bedroom                     1 person                        $312 to $393

 2 bedroom                     2 to 4 people                  $350 to $441

 3 bedroom                     4 to 6 people                  $408 to $514

Winfield Village is particularly popular for married students with children.  The complex has 348 units, and units become available year-round. It is located in Savoy about three miles from campus and is on the bus line.
