All applicants to the Illinois MBA must meet the following requirements:
- The applicant must have a four-year bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in the U. S. or an equivalent degree from an accredited institution in a foreign country.
- German and Austrian applicants with an arts or science degree must attain a degree level of "Diplom" or "Magister."
- Indian applicants with a three-year arts, science, or commerce degree must present both a bachelor's and a master's degree
- French applicants must complete a four-year "Licence," or a "Diplome" program, or a professional title beyond the "baccalaureat."

- International applicants whose native language is not English are required to submit a TOEFL score, (taken within two years from the proposed date of entry), unless the applicant has completed at least two years of full-time study or completed (in the past 5 years) a graduate degree in a country where English is the primary language and in a school where English is the primary language of instruction.
- Work experience is weighted heavily in admissions decisions. At least two years of full-time, post-undergraduate experience is strongly recommended, although exceptions have been made in the cases of joint degree applicants and applicants with compelling part-time experience.
Non-degree applications are not accepted.
