Business Professor Wins International Award
Professor Madhu Viswanathan, who teaches a second-year class to MBA and master's of engineering students, will receive the India International Friendship Society’s Bharat Gaurav Award, given annually to honor people whose work promotes India’s heritage and contributions at home and abroad. This award has been previously awarded to Mother Teresa and the former vice president of India. Click here to read the article in Inside Illinois.

MBA Students Finish Third at Corporate Restructuring Case Competition

Illinois MBA students Gagan Bhatia, Min Xie, and Atsushi Fukuno, along with Master's of Finance student Tirath Muchhala, recently competed in the Kellogg/ABI Corporate Restructuring Case Competition held at Northwestern University on November 5-6. The team advanced to the final round and finished third (out of 12 teams) for the second year in a row, earning a prize of $2,500. This case competition, co-sponsored by the American Bankruptcy Institute and the Kellogg School of Management, challenges groups of business students to solve a hypothetical business case of a distressed company before an audience of experts in the turnaround/crisis management/restructuring industries.

MBA Students to Attend Social Responsibility Conference
A group of MBA students will travel to Ithaca, New York, to attend the 2009 Net Impact Conference on November 13-14 at Cornell University. The title for this year's conference is "Advancing Sustainable Global Enterprise: Changemakers, Innovators, and Problem Solvers." The conference will bring together the leaders of the sustainable global enterprise movement. The Illinois MBA has a Net Impact chapter that creates opportunities for students to learn and discuss how they can make a positive difference in the world through business.
